About This Service
Clear vision affects everything — your ability to work, drive, read, and engage with the world around you. Yet for many adults without insurance, a basic eye exam and a pair of glasses feel out of reach. HANDS Clinic partners with a local vision facility to make sure that's not the case for our patients.
What's Included
- Annual comprehensive eye exam
- Prescription eyeglasses (once per year)
Benefits of Vision Care at HANDS Clinic
Vision problems often go undetected for years when people don't have access to regular eye exams. Beyond needing glasses, eye exams can reveal early signs of diabetes, high blood pressure, and other systemic conditions. Getting your eyes checked annually isn't just about seeing better — it's about staying healthier overall.
Why HANDS Clinic
HANDS Clinic has served St. Lucie County since 2010, building a network of 700+ volunteer healthcare professionals and community partners dedicated to one goal: making sure every resident has access to quality care, regardless of income or insurance status. Vision care is one of 13 service areas we offer, because we believe healthcare shouldn't be piecemeal.
Yes. Vision care, including a comprehensive eye exam and a pair of prescription glasses, is available once per year for eligible patients through our vision care partner.
No. HANDS Clinic specifically serves adults who do not have insurance. You do not need to have — or get — insurance to receive care here. Our eligibility requirements are based on income and residency, not insurance status.
At this time, our vision care benefit includes prescription eyeglasses only. If you have specific vision needs, talk to your provider about your options.
Eligibility is based on four factors: income level, St. Lucie County residency, age (19–64), and insurance status. The easiest way to find out is to fill out our eligibility form — it only takes a few minutes and will determine whether you qualify for care.
Yes. Services at HANDS Clinic are provided at no cost to eligible patients. There are no copays, no fees, and no surprise bills. Most services are completely free; some specialty referrals may be at a discounted rate. Your care team will always be upfront with you about what's included.
