HANDS Clinic, St. Lucie County to bring free mobile health care to Lincoln Park, other areas

County partnership

St. Lucie County purchased the nearly $270,000 mobile health bus with federal CARES Act money and HANDS will operate the retrofitted recreation vehicle.

Once the bus is outfitted with an expected $70,000 in medical equipment such as blood pressure machines and a defibrillator, it will be ready to serve residents, specifically in low-income areas.

Lincoln Park — an area in northwest Fort Pierce where 57% of residents live below the poverty level and 26% are uninsured, according to Allegany Franciscan Ministries —  is among communities where HANDS plans to take the bus first.

The bus, which will be wheelchair accessible and staffed by three nurse practitioners, will be in Lincoln Park 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. That schedule could be expanded depending on demand, she added.

Darwin Square in Port St. Lucie also could get visits by the bus, according to Hatch.
